The European commission called the main agent monopoly.
"an unjustified restriction on the consumer" and introduced Block Exemption.

Put simply it's a piece of government legislation that takes the monopoly for repairing vehicles, still under the manufacturers warranty, away from the "main agent" (franchised main dealer).

There are a great many Popular Misconceptions in the garage world but this may be the biggest! "I have to take my vehicle to the main dealers to keep my warranty" Not True You only have to take you vehicle to the main dealer for warranty work and nothing else.

Since the EU Block Exemption Regulation 1400/2002' (in short BER) came into force in October 2003, the vehicle purchasing and repair industry has undergone a radical change. YOU the motorist NO LONGER have to go to the main dealer to have your car serviced, or repaired "To keep up your warranty".
With the introduction of BER the vehicle manufacturers do not FORCE you to take your car to main dealer for routine service and repair. Only for warranty work.

Main dealers are franchisees, they are NOT the vehicle manufacturer.

You can choose a "quality independent garage" to take your car to, provided that your vehicle is serviced and repaired within the manufacturers guidelines, using dealer quality parts. IT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR WARRANTY!  ace auto services are such a garage.
